Virtual Local Area Network (VLAN) merupakan pengelompokan 1 area network atau lebih di dalam 1 Perangkat(Switch) jadi seperti berbeda LAN padahal dalam suatu kondisi fisik yang sama, atau bisa disebut juga untuk segmentasi, pemecah broadcast domain.
Karena VLAN diciptakan untuk memecah broadcast domain maka berbeda vlan secara default akan tidak bisa saling berkomunikasi, nah maka dengan Methode Routing apakah agar berbeda VLAN ini dapat saling berkomunikasi ? disebutnya adalah "Inter-VLAN Routing" inter-vlan routing ini sebenarnya tidak masuk kedalam kategori routing, karena di inter-vlan ini kita hanya ngasih Default Gateway untuk masing-masing VLAN yang mana untuk berkomunikasinya itu adalah Directly Connected, dan memberikan Default-Gatewaynya bisa dilakukan untuk beberapa VLAN di satu Interface saja, seperti pada topologi diatas, kita akan membuat Default-Gateway untuk VLAN 10, 20, 30, 40 pada Interface Gigabitethernet 0/0 saja, berarti kita harus memberikan 4 IP Address dalam 1 Interface Fisikal, disini kita dapat memanfaatkan subinterface jadi di satu interface fisikal kita dapat memecah/mengkonfigurasi beberapa interface logical lagi dikhususkan untuk VLAN-VLAN tertentu.
1. Konfigurasi Router
disini kita memberi IP Address di subinterface Interfacenya Gigabitethernet 0/0 "interface gigabitethernet 0/0.VLAN_ID" untuk subinterfacenya disesaikan saja dengan VLAN IDnya masing masing,
lalu pasang encapsulation dot1q atau Trunking untuk VLAN IDnya, Dot1q adalah Standar Jaringan yang mendukung Virtual LAN a.k.a VLAN untuk membawa paket ke VLAN yang telah ditentukan, masukan perintah "encapsulation dot1q VLAN_ID",
Kemudian Masukan IP Address untuk Default-Gatewaynya Client, masukan "ip address x.x.x.x"

jangan lupa juga untuk mengaktifkan interfacenya dengan cara masuk ke mode konfigurasi interface fisiknya, lalu masukan perintah "no shutdown".
